Timeline of Events Leading to His Death

The events that led to Tejpal’s death began around Karva Chauth, a festival celebrated in October. About 21 days before his death, a dispute broke out during a mehndi event. Tejpal’s friend, Pralabh Singh, argued with a man named Honey and his group. The reason? They were allegedly staring at Pralabh’s wife, which led to a heated exchange.

This argument didn’t end there. It created tension between the two groups. Though Tejpal wasn’t directly involved in the dispute, he was close to Pralabh. The matter grew serious, and the anger between the groups didn’t fade. It became a personal issue that would later turn deadly.

The Day of the Incident: 31 October 2025

On the afternoon of 31 October, Tejpal, his father Raghuvir Singh, and friend Pralabh Singh went to Sunheri Kiran Oil Mill in Jagraon, Ludhiana. They were there to collect animal feed, a routine task they had done many times before. The mill was located near Dr Hari Singh Hans Maternity Hospital, close to the SSP Ludhiana (Rural) office.

While they were at the mill, Tejpal had an argument with Honey, a resident of Rumi village. The argument quickly escalated. Honey called his brother Kala and 8–9 associates. Within minutes, the group arrived at the spot, ready to attack.

The Attack and Fatal Shooting

The attackers surrounded Tejpal and began assaulting him. In the chaos, Honey pulled out a pistol and fired a shot into Tejpal’s chest. The bullet hit him directly, and he collapsed. His father and friend tried to help, but it was too late. Tejpal died on the spot.

The scene was horrifying. People nearby rushed to help. Tejpal’s friends took him to a nearby hospital, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival. The news spread quickly, and shock gripped the community. A young life had been taken in broad daylight, near a busy hospital and police office.

Police Response and Evidence Collection

Soon after the incident, police from City Station and the Crime Investigation Agency reached the scene. They cordoned off the area and started collecting evidence. The investigation began immediately. A case was registered based on the statement of Tejpal’s father, Raghuvir Singh.

The police confirmed that the motive was linked to the earlier dispute during Karva Chauth. They identified three prime suspects—Honey Rumi, Kala Rumi, and Gagan from Moga. Two more aides were also named. Raids were conducted in Giddarwindi, Rumi, and nearby villages to locate and arrest the accused.

CCTV Footage and Forensic Clues

After the attack on Tejpal, the police acted quickly. They began collecting CCTV footage from buildings near the oil mill and hospital. These cameras helped trace the movement of the attackers. The police seized DVRs (digital video recorders) to study the recordings and identify who was involved.

The footage showed how the attackers arrived and how the incident unfolded. It gave clues about the vehicles used and the direction in which the suspects fled. This evidence became a key part of the investigation. It helped the police confirm the identity of the attackers and plan their next steps.

Arrests and Prime Suspects

On 2 November 2025, the police made a breakthrough. They arrested Harpreet Singh alias Honey from Rumi village and Gagandeep Singh alias Gagana from Killi Chahala, Moga. These two were among the main suspects in Tejpal’s murder. Their arrest brought some relief to the family and community.
