“I would call it softball — a softball event. I’ve never seen one as fawning. I’m not even sure why they had two hosts there. You know, they could have just had one and just sit there and say, ‘Smile and say, you’re great,’” Scarborough said on Thursday.
He added that Trump made a “political mistake” by boasting that he was responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion nationwide, which could alienate moderate and female voters.
“He admitted that he was the one who terminated Roe v Wade. And what did the Biden people do last night? They’re just hanging out. They’re probably laughing at all the Republican chaos and the debate and then laughing at the Fox News hosts, who were just absolute jokes,” Scarborough said.
Other critics also took to social media to blast Baier and MacCallum for their lack of journalistic integrity and their apparent bias towards Trump.
“Fox News is a propaganda machine. Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum are not journalists. They are Trump sycophants who enable his lies and his authoritarianism. Shame on them and shame on Fox News,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Baier and MacCallum are supposed to be the ‘straight news’ people at Fox. But they let Trump lie and ramble without any pushback. They are complicit in his assault on democracy and the rule of law,” another user commented.
