First Marriage to Bruno Metsu

Viviane Dièye wiki

Viviane met Bruno Metsu, a French football player and manager, in Italy in the late 1990s. They fell in love and decided to get married in early 2002. Bruno converted to Islam a day before their wedding, and she changed her name to Viviane Dièye Metsu. They had a secret ceremony with their close friends and family in Senegal.

Viviane and Bruno had three children together: Enzo, Noah, and Maeva. She also became a stepmother to Rémy, Bruno’s daughter from a previous relationship. They moved to the United Arab Emirates in 2002, where Bruno took on a prestigious position as the head coach for the UAE Football League, specifically leading the team AI Ain, owned by the Emir of Abu Dhabi.

She supported Bruno throughout his career, which included coaching Senegal to a historic victory over France in the opening game of the 2002 World Cup and guiding the UAE to the Gulf Cup title in 2007. Viviane Dièye’s happy marriage came to an abrupt end in October 2012, when Bruno was diagnosed with primary colon cancer that had already spread to his lungs and liver. He was given a terminal prognosis with only three months to live. She and their children were devastated by the news and stayed by his side as he fought against the disease.

Bruno underwent chemotherapy treatment for 18 months, but his condition worsened. He passed away on October 15, 2013, in his hometown of Coudekerque-Village in Northern France. He was 59 years old. Viviane was heartbroken by the loss of her husband and the father of her children. She paid tribute to him in an interview with Gulf News, saying:

He was an exemplary man, generous towards his friends and family and caring about the needs of others in the first place before his own, and could not sleep until he solved their problems. Everyone who knew him could attest generosity and eternal good mood of his. He had the personality and charisma to choose players he believed in and managed to convince them that they were of value.

Bruno’s funeral was Islamic and took place in Dakar, the Senegalese capital, in attendance of Viviane, their children, Senegalese President Macky Sall, Senegalese National Assembly President Moustapha Niasse, and several Senegalese footballers. He was buried in the Muslim cemetery of Yoff, near the airport.
